Last night I had the misfortune to watch the movie "Blended" with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Please note, I say misfortune only in an attempt to try and be polite to one of my favorite actresses, Drew Barrymore.
I have never in my entire life seen a movie so disgustingly butcher our culture and my country.
The director, Frank Coraci, must have, at some point actually been in South Africa, for him to claim to be the director of this piece of drivel.
Did he make any attempt to even speak to a single South African?
Did he make any attempt to even listen to any truly South African music?
Did he at any point make any attempt whatsoever to visit anywhere in South Africa besides the pathetic little idea bubble he created inside his own mind?
"Blended" had the opportunity to be a wonderful "feelgood" movie, because we all love those, with two good actors, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
It also had the opportunity to show that here in South Africa, we are the definition of the word "Blended".
But instead the director( term very loosely used) and producers decided to use actors like Terry Crews and Abodoulaye Ngom, who are not even remotely South African!!! Who, between them most likely spend all of five minutes bothering to learn their characters.
Being Black does not make you good to be a South African!!!!!!
What makes me the most angry about this mammoth pile of rotting trash is that this is what the rest of the world is seeing, and this pathetic excuse for a movie is what people will think we are like and what our culture, language and music is like. It sickens me!!!
The director ( again I use this term very very loosely) had a wonderful opportunity to do something special with this movie, but instead he didn't bother to even try and see South Africa and South Africans for what we are!!!
We are a nation of wonderful people, beautifully mixed cultures, stunningly soulful music and rich deep languages, but none of this was put on show in any form or way in this very very disappointing pile of rubbish.
If anyone ever decides to visit South Africa, please do not ever allow yourself to be influenced by this poor excuse of a movie.
I beg you!
Come visit us as see for yourself who we really are!!
